FAMILY GROUPS
The Mt Barker/Strathalbyn community is committed to being a caring and vibrant Christian community where people feel supported, cared for and accepted.. While there are many ways that we can achieve this, both formally and informally, we also recognise and appreciate that further structures need to be put in place to help parishioners cope with isolation and loneliness. Family Groups provides a structure that can help to create connections and friendships within our Parish in an informal manner.
History of the Family Group Movement
The Family Group movement was first established in 1972 by a Passionist Priest, Fr. Peter Mc Grath CP, for the purpose of building Christian community through the development of extended families. From their inception, Family Groups were seen as a practical way of building an extended family atmosphere within a faith community.
Aims of Family Groups in our Parish
Family Groups are an opportunity for parishioners of all ages to:
Examples of some Family Group activities are:
1. hold a discussion or see a film
2. play golf and/or other sporting activities
3. meet for coffee or a meal after mass
4. have a picnic
5. hold family masses
6. host BBQ's
7. arrange outings and/or attend sporting events.
